They’ve said about us
I started to go to the Zoo gym as soon as I retired from working 50 years for the same company. I was looking for something to fill my time and help fight the aging process.
What I got was far more than just a gym.
Originally I was looking to work my muscles to help me in my road biking and the kayaking that I started upon retirement, now the Zoo competes with my outdoor activities. That’s how much I enjoy the gym. It has definitely helped my cycling and kayaking abilities.
Aside from the health benefits of exercise, I met some great people. We talk and joke around until we remember, “oh, I came to exercise “.
I had started out with simple resistance training and a stint on an exercise bike and felt better each day. I became hooked on exercise and started to push myself to an hour on the bike followed by 1/2 to 1 hour of the elliptical. Then I tried the rower. I felt great. Then I started to look for more.
Then one day I looked through the door of a spinning class that Christine was instructing and said “sure I can do that”. Boy was I in for a surprise. I didn’t have clip shoes so I used the pedal cage. 15 minutes into the class I was wheezing and trying to get my foot out of the pedal. I figured it was more trouble getting my foot out than finishing the class so I stayed to the end. I could’ve used a floor squeegee to clean up the sweat I left on the floor. Later Pete suggested kitty litter. Funny guy.
I got some spinning shoes that made a big difference. I was hooked on the spinning classes and I try not to miss any of the morning classes. I’ll even use the room when no one is in there and do an hour. I enjoy all of the spin instructor’s classes. Jen, Nathalie, Tim, Beth, Dayana, Jayne and Marianne. Now I have to force myself to take at least one day a week for recovery.
Then, I noticed that my aging knees and hips started to bother me so when I walked by Mindy’s yoga class, I said to myself “I can do that”. A few embarrassing classes later, I was “OK”. Mindy was extremely helpful in my progress.
I can’t say enough on how going to the Zoo has improved my health and mind. It’s great therapy.
I ALMOST feel guilty for the amount of time I spend there each day but I’ll get over that.
I am so fortunate that I decided to move my membership 3 years ago from one popular gym in the valley to The Zoo Health Club.
Upon meeting the owner and staff and having my first tour, I knew the only option was to become a member at The Zoo! I have seen the same faces from my early morning workouts to my afternoon and weekend workouts, as well as plenty of new faces. The Zoo is a family that my family and I love and are so happy to be a part of. The cleanliness of the club and the options for classes are great. The personal attention you get from any individual that is on the floor or behind the desk is super helpful — they are always willing to assist and guide you.
The Zoo has encouraged and supported me to lose weight, drop inches, and check things off my bucket list such as the Tough Mudder and the Hartford Half Marathon!
I have been training at the zoo for just under a year, and while I had tried trainers before, none had managed to both help me achieve my goals and keep me motivated to keep it up. I would do everything I could to protect the two evenings a week that I trained. I signed up to improve overall fitness, tone, and gain endurance. The result is that my clothes fit me better, I feel energized, and I know I am stronger. Now, I am more aware of what it takes to maintain a healthy body. My endurance has improved along with overall exercise performance. I would thoroughly recommend the semi-private training at the zoo to help you reach your fitness needs. Whatever your goals are. they will listen and identify how to help you reach them. For me, the evidence speaks for itself and, much to my surprise, I really enjoyed the sessions! Thanks to the trainers who always pushed me and told me “you got this.”
John – You and your gym, along with the great people who go there, got me through a lot of tough times. You guys are all like family to me.
The Zoo Health Club has everything I need. It is equipped with a wide variety of equipment and machines. The place is always clean and the equipment is always organized in a sensible way. Possibly the best thing about the Zoo is the people – the members are friendly and many of them seem to be friends outside of the gym, which makes for a positive environment. The staff is also very knowledgeable and friendly -They’ve always provided thoughtful answers to the questions that I’ve asked them. The zoo is the ideal balance of serious fitness, community, and a social getaway from a busy workweek.
My favorite aspect of the Zoo is the Group Fitness Classes (specifically 6am Bootcamp, Tabata, and Spinning.) They have taken my workouts to a new level both physically and mentally – I now expect more from myself in a workout. The trainers are attentive to everyones goals and work hard to incorporate a little of what everyone is working towards into every class, without compromising the workout. Not only do they push me, but they also hold me accountable. I get friendly reminders to show up, assistance with my nutrition, and encouragement when they see me working hard. Thanks to the Zoo Instructors, I have reached my goal weight and measurements!
“Training with John was the best thing I could have done to turn my life around. Our sessions were intense, driven, well-structured and fun. My goal was clear: I needed to lose 2 ½ stone for my exotic holiday in July. I was over the moon when I realized that by May, I had already lost that and more. With John’s help and determination I went from a size 14 (11 stone) to a size 8 (8 stone) in just 4 months. Due to his controlled and organized regime, I had gone from a BMI of 27 to one of just 20.
Following my training with John, I have gone on to lose one more stone and I am now a size 6-8 (BMI of 19). I have continued my exercise regime as he had previously set out for me and I am now enjoying my new life and body! Thank you John!”
